Tutors Needed - 2BC is currently seeking volunteers to help tutor elementary to high school students in the following subjects: Math, Science, Language Arts/English and Foreign Languages. We will be conducting background checks on all potential volunteers.

New Church Hours - Beginning April 1, 2022, the new church hours are as follows:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays-11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. (office and building), Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays-6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. (building only), Saturdays-9:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. (building only), Closed on Fridays.

2024 Giving Envelopes - Giving envelopes for year 2024 are available for pick-up In the Fellowship Hall near cubicle one during business hours. Please call the business office at 804-232-5124 if there are questions.

Attention All Ministry Leaders - Effective immediately, for all in-building weekday meetings that are held before 6:00 P.M., have a ministry member posted at the Security Desk from 15 minutes before through 15 minutes after the meeting start time to give building access/egress to meeting participants. Please feel free to contact a Trustee if you have questions.

The Medical Ministry Needs You - The Medical Ministry seeks volunteers with varied backgrounds to help fulfill its duties. You will be trained. Please inquire if you are a high school student (age 16 and up) with an interest in healthcare, student in a medical-related field, CNA, Nurse, Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomist, Caretaker and many more! Volunteer In The Garden - Come and Volunteer in the Garden! Eden’s Garden is open to volunteers every Saturday (weather permitting) from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

Young Adult Bible Study - The YAM invites you to join their monthly Bible Study that will be held on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M. in conference rooms 7, 8, and 9 starting February 6th, both in person and virtually. Please join them.

Women's Fellowship - The Ladies of Virtue (LOV) will hold the monthly Women’s Fellowship on 1st Saturdays at 10:00 A.M. – 12 noon starting on March 4th in the Multi-Purpose Room. Please come out and participate.

Corporate Congregational Prayer - The Intercessory Prayer and the Prayer Praise Ministries invite the 2BC congregation to join them for intercessory prayer in the sanctuary on Wednesdays from 6:00 P.M. to 6:20 P.M. (just before weekly Bible Study), starting March 8th. Also, stop by the prayer request table and place requests in the box and/or pick-up prayer tools.

Wanted: Food Protection Manager - Bread of Life of Second  Baptist is seeking a Certified Food Protection Manager. The 3-day certification class starts in April. Grateful Gifts - Our Grateful Gifts Campaign will run through December 31, 2023. The mortgage will be refinanced next year. Interest rates have risen and so will our payments unless we substantially reduce the debt! Give your best “Grateful Gift” – e.g., if 200 people give $500 each, we’ll raise $100,000 to pay down the debt! Change-for change… Coins add up. Place your coins in the Whirl-A-Mortgage. Senior Line Dancing - Starting May 31st and every 2nd and 4th Wednesday thereafter, the Pastor’s Aide Ministry will sponsor Line Dancing from 11:00 A.M. to 12 noon in the Fellowship Hall. The class will be led by Tia Davis at no charge, but donations are appreciated.

Holy Communion To Sick and Shut In - Starting in June 2023, the Deacon and Deaconess Ministries will resume administering communion to members and family members who are sick and shut-in. To schedule communion, contact your family Deacon or send email to Deacons@2bcsouthside.org by the second Sunday of each month.

BRFM Steering Committee - The Broad Rock Farmers Market is recruiting volunteers to join its 2023 Steering Committee. Bereavement and Grief Counseling - Sis. Elizabeth Taylor, a student intern at Brightpoint Community College, is completing her internship here at Second Baptist under the supervision of Minister Alice Tamrie. She will be available to work with individuals, families, and groups who may be mourning or going through the grief process starting September 11, 2023. Liz will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M., and on 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 10:00 A.M. – 12 noon. Spiritual Gifts Class - Calling all new and existing members! Come and discover your spiritual gifts and how to effectively use them in the service of others for the building up of God’s kingdom. Starting Sunday, October 30th, 2022 and every 5th Sunday thereafter, the New Member Support Ministry will offer a Spiritual Gifts Class from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.. Join The Young Adult Choir - The Young Adult Choir seeks new members who are ages 18 – 39 years. This choir supports Sunday worship service on 5th Sundays. Diabetes Clinic Afternoon Sessions - The Virginia Corporate Extension (VCE) will host an afternoon session of the “Balanced Living with Diabetes” program for people with Type 2 diabetes and their families. Sessions begin here at Second Baptist starting Monday, March 18th at 12:30 P.M. This will be a 6-week program that meets once weekly on Mondays at 12:30 P.M.

Kairos Prison Ministry Visit - The Prison Ministry will visit a facility on April 25th thru 28th, so now is the time to start baking cookies for it. Cookies are to be delivered to the building from now through Sunday, April 21st. They must be homemade (not store bought); and the types accepted are chocolate chip, chocolate, and sugar cookies. Farmers Market Volunteers - The BRFM Steering Committee is recruiting volunteers for the 2024 markets that will take place 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on 1st and 3rd Saturdays from May through October, 2024. A training session for volunteers will be held 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 27th. If interested, send an email to BroadRockFM@gmail.com and plan to attend the training session.

MCM Bible Study - Please join the Married Couples Ministry for Bible Study on 4th Fridays at 7:00 P.M. The next one will be on April 26th.

Reach The Peak! - Calling all Second Baptist Young Adults ages 18 to 39. Come join the YAMs at Peak Experience Richmond (located at 1375 Overbrook Rd.) on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The cost is $20 per person which covers a 2-hour time slot and climbing gear. Pay at the door. Afterward, enjoy dinner at the Olive Garden (4467 S. Laburnum Ave.). Special Call Church Meeting - ALL MEMBERS are asked to attend a special call church meeting on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 at 7:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary. The purpose is to discuss matters related to the apartment complex development that will be located behind the church building.

Higher Education Scholarships - Attention all 2024 graduates who are members of Second Baptist Church: You are invited to apply for a scholarship. Please complete the application and submit it by May 12th, 2024. Mental Health Forum - The Young Adult Ministry will host the “The Jesus and Therapy Part 2” mental health forum on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Ministering To The Unhoused - Pastor Hodge and Second Baptist Leaders offer their sincere thanks to everyone who donated goods, funds, time, and effort to make the first delivery of care packages and coats to those who are unhoused. Your continued support is needed for the next planned outings on April 13th, May 18th, and June 8th. In addition to donating items for the snack bags and toiletry bags, please donate socks instead of puffy coats. Lists of the needed goods can be found on the Bookstore counter. 15th Annual Sickle Cell Unity Ride - The Sickle Cell Bike Committee and the MCV Foundation presents the 15th Annual Sickle Cell Unity Ride where the goal is to heighten awareness of the disease and to raise much-needed funds for Sickle Cell research and supportive services for patients and families. The event will take place on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 starting 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA and the final destination will be Second Baptist Church in south Richmond, 11:45 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Mother's Day Tea - The Widows and Friends Ministry invites you to a Mother’s Day Tea to be held in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, May 11th from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. It will feature a Women of the Bible portrayal. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased in the lobby on Sundays thru May 5th from 10:45 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and after worship service. Sunday Morning Bible Study - Sunday Morning Bible Study for adults and young people takes place from 9:30 A.M.-10:30 A.M. The class is held in person and via Zoom.The Zoom link can be found on the left side of the main page of our web site.

Caring and Sharing Ministry - If you need access to food, emergency housing, clothing or employment resources, the Caring and Sharing Ministry is here to help. H.O.P.E. Ministry - The Harvesters of Positive Energy (H.O.P.E.) Ministry is a confidential support group designed to support families and caregivers of those who have been diagnosed with any kind of cancer. Memorial Bricks - The Mature Life Ministry is preparing to order bricks for our Memorial Wall. Please purchase a brick in remembrance of a deceased loved one or a tribute to an organization.
